Functions
The main functions of the Directorate of Tea are
- Implementation of Cess Utilization (Amendment) Policy for Development and Welfare of Small Tea Growers of Assam.
- To promote Assam Tea as a brand in the National & International Market by organizing fair/road show etc. within and outside the country.
- Imparting of training to small tea growers to give knowledge regarding good field practices for enhancing quality of tea produced by them.
- Setting up of BLF by Self Help Group of Small Tea Growers for processing of Bought Leaf.
- By maintaining and increasing the export of tea.
- By providing organisational support for increasing productivity in the tea industry and corresponding plough back of profits.
- By promoting the small growers concept.
- By installing common facility centres for Tea Processing and manufacturing for groups of small growers in the small scale Industries Sector.
- By offering assistance in mobile sprinkler irrigation, pest control, provision of fertilizers etc. For the low-income tea gardens.
This Directorate is the nodal agency which deals with tea industry including promotion of small scale units (ancillaries related to tea industry, re-investment of tea surplus for diversified co-related activities, assistance to needy tea estates, etc.)
Objectives
- To facilitate and induce growth of the small tea growers.
- To help and take care of the welfare of the marginal tea workers employed in the small tea growers and unorganized tea sector.
- To provide financial support to SHG/cooperatives/partners/companies formed by small tea growers as equity holders.
- Setting up of tea factories by SHG/cooperatives/partners/companies of STGs.
- To upgrade STGs from unorganized to organized sector through quality enhancement and best practices in tea production.
